Ohtani, Yamamoto and the top 10 largest contracts ever signed by Japanese MLB players

  • Contract values are sourced from Spotrac
  • We ranked athletes by the total value of their single largest contract, not by total career earnings or average annual salary within a contract
  • In instances of an equal total contract value between players, we ranked the contract with the greater average annual salary higher
  • Average annual salaries in MLB have increased by 81% from 2006 to 2023. As such, in addition to actual contract values, we’ve included an inflation-adjusted value for each entry to give you a sense of what each player’s contract might look like in today’s market.
